Una verdadera juma en la lectura nos induce a pensar que tanto Edgar Colmenares del Valle como Manuel Bermúdez (sin dejar a un lado a Denzil Romero, quien seguramente supo de este libro) siguen siendo factores importantes en el imaginario aguardentoso criollo. Y lo digo muy en serio porque he trasegado licores con ellos sin que una lágrima anuncie algún arrepentimiento o discordancia con el zumbido del infinito.

Los que me leen pensarán que no le pongo la debida seriedad a este estudio de mi paisano y amigo Edgar Colmenares, “Designaciones de borracho en el habla venezolana”, publicado por la Editorial Grano de Oro, Caracas, 1989. Igual pensarán que soy un Albertebrio empedernido, cuestión que no es cierta pero que tampoco debo negar por cuestiones éticas y etílicas.

La caña, la bebida, el aguardiente –todos en uno- han sido siempre entre algunos investigadores y artistas materia de sesudos estudios, tanto que beben y beben y terminan estudiados. Pero como este es y no es el caso, trato de adentrarme en este trabajo que he disfrutado mucho porque Colmenares del Valle, quien es un académico brillante y sencillo, así como quien escribió el prólogo, Manuel Bermúdez, lo fue y lo sigue siendo en nuestra memoria, se propusieron con creces entrarle al asunto y lograr estas páginas tan necesarias, tanto para bebedores como para abstemios, pero mucho más para  profesores de lingüística, pero no para los pesados y poco amables, sino para los que saben que la lingüística también tiene su lado donde el humor y la rasquiña abundan, aunque usted no lo crea. Porque muchos dicen que es una asignatura infértil, estéril, áspera, como algunas donde la sociología se admite como inane.

Este texto de nuestro narrador, poeta y académico revela el lado más iluminado de la lengua que hablamos porque es tan sinónima como antónima, aunque no nos demos cuenta en cuanto a lo antónimo, porque no pueden existir tantos antónimos cuando los sinónimos se sostienen en presupuestos generativos específicos. No me entiendo, pero creo que me quedó redondo.

Pues bien, queridos lectores, en este libro nos encontraremos con un extenso glosario de términos que seguramente le enfriarán el guarapo a quienes son un tanto devotos de la persignación y más nada. Estas hojas maravillan por la gran cantidad de voces que en un campo léxico/ semántico se sostienen para revelar una geolingüística rica en maneras de nombrar el “bon vino” vernáculo, venga de donde venga y vaya a la garganta que vaya.

El aguardiente blanco, la caña clara, el ron, el cocuy, el whisky, el vino, el anís, el vodka y demás bebidas sabidas y por saber han pasado por el gaznate nacional y en cada región tienen una manera de ser designadas. He allí la constitución de este estudio que nos revela el conocimiento y la sabiduría de su autor y de quien le hace el prólogo. Dos maestros, dos pedagogos que también se arriman a la barra y conversan sobre la divinidad, designaciones, significados y significantes del alcohol.

“Los borrachos”, pintura de Velásquez, nos regalan la bienvenida a este bar, tarantín, botiquín, taguara o tasca verbal en la que se despliega toda la imaginación para resolverle un problema a los que sufren de ratones o resacas (no marinas) y no encuentran cómo atraparlos luego de una buena “pea”.

Por eso el profesor Bermúdez titula “Borracho y borracheras vistos por un abstemio”. Allí dice:

“Para el análisis metodológico, Colmenares utiliza la teoría del “triángulo semiótico”, que desde la Antigüedad viene proyectándose en la filosofía de Platón, Aristóteles y los estoicos. Luego pasa al “Trivium” de la filosofía escolástica. Y se convierte en teoría sistemática en la obra de Pierce, de Ogden y Richards, de Ullmann, Eco y Baldinger, quienes a través del triángulo analizan las relaciones que existen entre el lenguaje, el pensamiento y la realidad, coincidiendo con las teorías expuestas por Guillermo de Humboldt y Ferdinand de Saussure, precursores del estructuralismo lingüístico…”, y así continúa. De modo que resalta la idea de confirmar que tales designaciones, más adelante señaladas, tienen valor verbal o escrito, intangible u original y otro tangible o “concreto”, para usar una palabra que suele fundir neuronas ideológicas.

Más adelante, luego de trasegar un discurso muy en serio y medio en broma (humor le sobraba), Bermúdez precisa:

“Edgar Colmenares del Valle, con esta obra, ha hecho una indagación semiológica muy particular. Ángel Rosenblat con sus “Buenas y malas palabras” y Camilo José Cela con su “Diccionario secreto” nos revelaron las posibilidades de una lectura grata y útil. “Designaciones de borracho en el habla venezolana”, además de tener ambas condiciones, pone de manifiesto que el método lingüístico no es abstemio. Y que el analista de palabras, como el de vinos y licores, es un buen catador que ofrece a sus lectores un producto seriamente estudiado, procesado y elaborado, con cuerpo, sabor y “bouquet” académico”.

Pues bien, ahí tienen, bien dicho por el profesor Manuel Bermúdez.

El índice, un poco antes de empujar las batientes del bar, destaca, aparte de la introducción que hace el autor y el prólogo de Bermúdez, el siguiente contenido:

Imagino que en esa nómina destacarán muchos bebedores de cualquier licor, por su sabiduría y equilibrio terrenal.

El mencionado método del triángulo semiótico induce a seguirle el rastro al significado “onomasiológico”, voz que designa el carácter generativo de las palabras.

Esta gramática de la borrachera o la bebezón contiene una filosofía del bebedor, quien funda una crítica tanto sintópica como diatópica.
