LAS LEYENDAS DEL PASTOR DE ALMAS (Segunda Parte)

-Hasta ahora, en los diálogos precedentes, hemos visto que alrededor de cada leyenda se tejen variantes o modificaciones de la historia, pero la historia propiamente dicha y sus personajes, en esencia, siempre son los mismos. Contigo hemos encontrado un caso verdaderamente peculiar. En cada una de las etnias indígenas que explicaron tu origen y lo vincularon con su cosmogonía, tanto la historia como los personajes y, por supuesto, la ambientación son disímiles. Nos daremos cuenta de la autonomía de cada leyenda con la revisión de las que se cuentan entre las etnias maya, azteca, guaraní, quechua y mapuche. ¿Te parece? Sin olvidar, por supuesto, esos otros relatos que evocan, como tú mismo lo has dicho, evocan tus andanzas.

-Por mí, no hay problema. Pero… previamente, permíteme decir algo que me parece muy importante y no quiero perder esta oportunidad para expresarlo. Actualmente por la invasión, modificación y posterior pérdida de nuestro hábitat natural y por la persecución de que somos objeto en ciertas comunidades, algunas de nuestras especies están a punto de extinción y otras peligrosamente amenazadas. ¿Lo sabías?

-Sí. Así es y estoy consciente de que tal situación es un problema verdaderamente grave que exige una atención inmediata por parte de las autoridades que tienen bajo su responsabilidad la preservación del medio ambiente. Tengo entendido que ya en algunos países funcionan Instituciones que han asumido la responsabilidad de fundar y desarrollar varios programas de protección y mantenimiento del colibrí.

-Ojalá sean programas efectivos y podamos restablecernos y seguir siendo la leyenda del infinito.

-Tú lo has dicho. Tú eres la leyenda del infinito. A través de ti y del campo semiótico cultural que contigo se ha generado, tenemos la convicción de que podemos ir en búsqueda del origen del universo, del hombre y de las relaciones que entre ambos se establecieron en un illo tempore. Al respecto, a través del libro de Mires Ortiz, podemos darnos cuenta de que en la América prehispánica una buena parte de los relatos, que preservaron la memoria del origen y explicaron simbólicamente el porqué de los principios que rigen nuestro mundo, tienen al colibrí como protagonista estelar. Entre estos relatos no faltan los que lo reconocen como una deidad equiparable, hoy, mañana y siempre, con otros dioses alados de la mitología universal. De hecho, el subtítulo del trabajo de Mires Ortiz es: La deidad colibrí en Amerindia y el dios alado en la mitología universal. Tampoco faltan los que le asignan vínculos extraterrestres. Tal es el caso del enigmático geoglifo del colibrí de Nazca cuya imagen ilustra, precisamente, la portada del libro de Mires Ortiz. Hay quienes afirman que este geoglifo y los demás que integran las llamadas líneas de Nazca “fueron producidos por una cultura con elevado desarrollo tecnológico”.

Por su parte, Victoria Castro, al referirse a este tema del colibrí de Nazca, afirma:

La arqueología entrega buenos ejemplos de la representación del picaflor en la cultura Nazca de los Andes costeños del sur del Perú, tanto en la cerámica pintada como en los geoglifos de la Pampa del Ingenio, en donde el pico de esta ave termina en un grupo de líneas que podrían señalar la bajada del sol el 21 de Diciembre. Hoy la gente de Nazca cree que las gigantescas representaciones de aves de este lugar son propiciatorias de la llegada del agua y, tal vez, hace más de mil años los nasquenses las asociaron a la fertilidad de la tierra y la germinación de sus cultivos, beneficiando una producción en un territorio extremadamente árido (Reiche 1982, Townsend 1985, Castro 1990).  A propósito también de estas tesis vinculadas con Nazca, la Dra. María Reiche (En Mires Ortiz, p. 127) escribe que el colibrí de Nazca es, sencillamente, uno de los “misterios del desierto”. Así mismo, se cuenta entre los indígenas de esta región que “en una gran sequía, el Colibrí comenzó a llorar desconsolado; las nubes se apiadaron de su dolor y acompañaron su llanto rompiendo en lluvia. Así fue como el llanto del Colibrí salvó a sus pichones pero también a los humanos de una tragedia climática”. En definitiva, según esta misma fuente, el colibrí está presente “en casi todos los mitos de origen en las culturas americanas. Aún hoy es el que levantó el cielo o el que robó el fuego para dárselo a los hombres, es el que alimentó a los dioses antes que despertaran o el que recuperó la coca que le había sido robada a los comuneros; es el mensajero de la paz y de los dioses, el que avisa la visita de los amigos o de los peregrinos. Y es el guerrero guía por excelencia”.

-Esta última afirmación, seguramente, se motiva en el hecho de que yo guie a Huitzilopochtli  y a sus guerreros desde Aztlán, su tierra natal, hasta el sitio donde se fundó la Gran Tenochtitlan.

-¿Tienes idea de cuándo apareciste por vez primera descrito en alguno de los códices o crónicas que testimonian la presencia europea en América a partir de 1492?

-No sé si la referencia que voy a citar sea exactamente la primera. Pero, en todo caso, está entre las más antiguas. Data de 1526. La escribió Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo Valdés (*Madrid, 1478 / +Valladolid, 1557) en el Sumario que precedió a su Historia General y Natural de las Indias que se publicó en 1535. Dicha obra se reconoce como la primera enciclopedia del Nuevo Mundo. En ella, este cronista y conquistador español narra hechos acaecidos entre 1492 y 1549 y describe diferentes tópicos de la geografía, la fauna, la flora y los habitantes de los espacios en que se asentó la invasión española. Fue nombrado por Carlos V como el primer Cronista de Indias. Vivió 22 años en diversos lugares de la América conquistada y colonizada por España. De Fernández de Oviedo es, entonces, este testimonio:

Pájaro Mosquito. Hay unos pajaritos tan chiquitos, que el bulto todo de unos de ellos es menor que la cabeza del dedo pulgar de la mano, y pelado es más de la mitad menor de lo que es dicho; es una avecica que, además de su pequeñez, tiene tanta velocidad y presteza en el volar, que viéndola en el aire no se le pueden considerar las alas de otra manera que las de los escarabajos o abejones, y no hay persona que le vea volar que piense que es otra cosa sino abejón.

Los nidos son según la proporción o grandeza suya. Yo he visto uno de estos pajaricos que él y el nido puestos en un peso de pesar oro pesó todo dos tomines, que son veinte y cuatro granos, con la pluma, la cual si no tuviera, fuera el peso mucho menos. Sin duda parecía en la sotileza de sus piernas y manos a la avecicas que en las márgenes de las horas de rezar suelen poner los iluminadores; y es de muy hermosas colores su pluma, dorada y verde y de otras colores, y el pico luengo según el cuerpo, y tan delgado como un alfiler. Son muy osados, y cuando ven que algún hombre sube en el árbol en que cría, se le va a meter por los ojos, y con tanta presteza va y huye y torna, que no se puede creer sin verlo cierto es cosa la pequeñez de este pajarico, que no osara hablar en él sino porque sin mí hay en esta corte de vuestra majestad otros testigos de vista. De lo que hacen el nido es del flueco o pelos de algodón, del cual hay mucho y les es mucho al propósito.

-A esa respuesta tuya, yo voy a agregar esta información. En 1948, el lingüista español Tomás Navarro Tomás (*1884 / +1979) publicó El español en Puerto Rico. Contribución a la geografía lingüística hispanoamericana, una de las obras emblemáticas entre las que se han dedicado, desde la perspectiva de la geografía lingüística,  al estudio de la diferenciación léxica y su distribución geográfica en el español de Puerto Rico y, a base de referencias bibliográficas, a su correlación con otras variedades del español de América. Una de estas referencias, junto con una nota sobre la procedencia del término colibrí, está tomada,  precisamente, de Fernández de Oviedo. En la página 147 de la edición conmemorativa de los cincuenta años de este trabajo de Tomás Navarro Tomás, publicada por la Editorial de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, con un “Estudio preliminar por María Vaquero de Ramírez”, leemos:

Al pájaro mosca se le llama en toda la isla zumbador, con variantes como zumbandero, Comerío; zumbandera, Barros, Vegas; zumbandora, Aguada, Mayagüez; zumbón, Guamá; sunsún, Palmarejo. Los nombres inspirados, no por el rumor de las alas del pájaro sino por la impresión de su vuelo, pertenecen a lugares del sur: chupaflor, Duey, Salinas, Maunabo; vuelaflor y picaflor, Magueyes, mapa 52. No aparecieron ni el nombre de pájaro mosquito, usado por Fernández de Oviedo, ni el de pájaro mosca, divulgado por la lengua común, ni el indigenismo colibrí, aunque estos últimos se empleen, por supuesto, en los círculos cultivados.

Al nombre de colibrí se le considera de origen caribe. Fernández de Oviedo describe a este diminuto animal con sus vivas y gráficas comparaciones: “Hay unos pájaros tan chiquitos que el bulto de ellos es menor que la cabeza del dedo pulgar de la mano, y pelado es más de la mitad menor de lo que es dicho. Sumario, Rivadeneyra, XXII, 496. Oviedo añade observaciones sobre la rapidez del vuelo del pájaro mosca y sobre la pequeñez de su nido.

-Hace mucho tiempo que no oía ese nombre de vuelaflor.

-Creo que no es muy común. De hecho, es la única vez que lo he documentado. Pero… extendiéndonos un poco más sobre este punto, déjame decirte que el poeta Ernesto Cardenal (*1925 / +2020), en El estrecho dudoso (Buenos Aires: Editorial Carlos Lohlé, 1972; p. 126), escribió su “versión de Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo”. En ella, Cardenal dice:

El picaflor

tiene el pico largo y delgado como un alfiler

y es pajarito tan chiquito como la cabeza del pulgar.

Se mantiene del rocío y la miel y el licor de las flores,

sin sentarse sobre la rosa;

avecica de tanta velocidad

que al volar no se le ven las alas.

Se duerme o se adormece en octubre

y despierta o revive en abril

cuando hay muchas flores.

Su nido es de flecos de algodón,

y en una balanza de pesar oro

pesan dos times él y su nido.

Sutil como las avecicas

que en las márgenes de las horas de rezar

ponen los iluminadores.

Es de muy lindos colores su pluma,

dorada y verde y de otros colores y la usan para labrar oro.

Dicho esto… Continuemos… Otra pregunta… ¿Es cierto que hibernas?

-Sí y por ese motivo en algunas comunidades me llaman causarca o pájaro resucitado. Sobre esta peculiaridad que tengo, en el trabajo de Victoria Castro encontramos citado el testimonio que dejó el jesuita español Bernabé Cobo (*Lopera, Jaén, 1582 / +Lima, 1657) en su Historia del Nuevo Mundo. Recordemos que Cobo llegó a América a los 15 años. Viajó por las Antillas, Guatemala, Nueva Granada, Venezuela, Panamá, México y Perú. El manuscrito de esta obra, producto de los apuntes que él fue tomando en sus diferentes y constantes viajes, fue revisado y concluido por él mismo en Lima en 1653 y permaneció inédito hasta 1890. Leamos lo que en ese trabajo  se dice:

Cobo [1653 (1964): 323–324] señala lo siguiente: “el quenti es el menor de los pájaros que se hallan en estas Indias, (…) es tan pequeño, (…) tiene mucha pluma. (…). Las plumas son pintadas de muchos y hermosos colores. Tiene este pajarito una naturaleza prodigiosa, y es que en las tierras donde se agostan las flores no vive más tiempo de lo que ellas duran, de cuya melosidad se mantiene, sustentándose sobre ellas sin asentarse en el árbol, sino moviendo velozmente sus alitas, se está parado en el aire un buen rato; y en pasándose el tiempo de las flores, se allega a un pino, o a otros árboles, guiado de su natural instinto, y asiéndose con el pico, se queda colgado por tiempo de seis meses, poco más o menos, y en comenzando por la primavera a florecer las plantas, torna él a cobrar vida o despertar de aquel largo sueño”.

El texto de Cobo continua con: “He oído decir que las damas chilenas adelantan la resurrección de los quentis o Picaflores de su tierra, abrigándolos en su seno. Por eso, y sin necesidad de metáforas místicas, los llaman allí Pájaros resucitados”. (Cf. https://sora. unm.edu/sites/default/files/journals/on/v015s/p0409-p0418.pdf).

-El hecho de que las damas chilenas abriguen en su seno al colibrí, me hizo pensar en el origen de Huitzilopochtli y en la tesis del “Mito del eterno retorno” desarrollada por Mircea Eliade en el libro que tiene ese mismo título. De una edición hecha en Buenos Aires (Emecé, 2001), cito estas palabras de Eliade:

Un objeto o un acto no es teoría real más que en la medida en que imita o repite un arquetipo. Así, la realidad se adquiere exclusivamente por repetición o participación; todo lo que no tiene un modelo ejemplar esta “desprovisto de sentido”, es decir, carece de realidad. Los hombres tendrán, pues, la tendencia a hacerse arquetípicos y paradigmáticos. (p. 25).

Sin duda, amigo mío, contigo vamos de una historia a otra y de esta última a otra… historia tras historia… y todavía no llegamos a las leyendas mayores que anunciamos en relación con tu creación por parte de los dioses en diferentes etnias autóctonas… Paciencia, un poquito de paciencia, porque antes de que definitivamente abordemos ese tema, quiero que recordemos dos nombres particularmente dedicados al estudio de varias de las tradiciones indígenas en Venezuela: Fray Cesáreo de Armellada y Monseñor Mariano Gutiérrez Salazar. A ellos, entre otros, se les debe la recolección de una gran parte de la expresión poética y narrativa vinculada particularmente con la cosmogonía de varias etnias autóctonas. Con ellos la oralidad primaria se hizo memoria externa e indicio de identidad en relatos como “El pájaro garzón y el chupaflor o tucusito”, “El tucusito y el trueno” y “La leyenda del tucusito en el estado Amazonas”.  Este último, recogido por Monseñor Gutiérrez Salazar, es particularmente elocuente en cuanto a la presencia y manifestación del pensamiento mítico o mágico, o en todo caso, maravilloso o extraordinario, propio de la organización del mundo en un determinado estadio de la evolución de la humanidad. Óyeme para que recuerdes ese momento:

Cuenta la leyenda jivi que en tiempos remotos las indígenas embarazadas cortaban su barriga para poder dar a luz. Llegó el día en que el tucusito posó su nido cerca de una de las familias jivi y al ver la forma cómo se iba a llevar a cabo un parto, descendió del árbol y le enseñó a la mujer una mejor forma para dar a luz. Le dijo que al agacharse, abriera las piernas y pujara con fuerza sin cortar la respiración para poder tener a su hijo sin hacerse daño. Después de esto, todas las mujeres de la aldea empezaron a hacerlo y es el modo en que todavía lo hacen las mujeres pertenecientes a esta etnia en aquellas comunidades que todavía conservan las tradiciones ancestrales.

-Nuevamente, al oír este relato, me has hecho recordar otra de las historias que se cuentan a propósito de mi origen. Esta se relata entre los guaraníes y se titula “¿Cómo fueron creados el sapo y el picaflor?”. Está en Internet y, por supuesto, en nuestra Antología. Es breve y dice así:

Con gran sentido del humor, los Guaraníes imaginaron a Tupá, el buen dios, creando al Picaflor, el más hermoso de los pájaros. Pero Añá, lleno de envidia, lo espió y quiso imitar su creación. Repitió todos los pasos, usó los mismos ingredientes, invocó una misteriosa fuerza mágica pero, al abrir sus manos … un feo sapo fue el resultado de su mal accionar. El escritor argentino Gustavo Roldán recreó esta leyenda en su libro Cuentos con pájaros (Buenos Aires: Centro Editorial Aca Latina. Sec. Cult. de la Nación; 1993). A propósito de esta recreación, en la que Roldán, entre otras modificaciones, sustituye el sapo por un murciélago, Dora Giannoni escribe:

[Roldán] Hace el relato más familiar y simpático, contando de un mal día para Dios porque vino la palomita a decirle “que en el mundo andaban a las patadas, que el diablo estaba haciendo barbaridades, pero lo peor de todo, era que se le había quemado la yerba del mate”. A fin de cambiar la mala suerte, se puso a hacer “una de las cosas que más le gustaban: crear nuevos pajaritos”. Amasó un poco de barro y le dio la forma de un pajarito que no existía. “Como por arte de magia, el más hermoso de los picaflores salió volando, haciendo brillar todos sus colores de arco iris… se quedó mirando la maravilla del vuelo del pajarito más chico que hubiera inventado… Esa tarde, los ángeles le escucharon silbar y tararear un montón de chamamés de esos que ni te cuento… Mientras tanto, el diablo que lo había estado espiando, intentó hacer lo mismo y al soplar sobre la mezcla, vio salir volando a un murciélago. -Bien, amigo mío, oyendo este aguinaldo venezolano en las voces de los Niños cantores de Oriente, hemos concluido con esta parte de nuestra exposición. Vamos, por fin, de inmediato, a desandar el camino de tus leyendas y a desempolvar tus orígenes. Te pregunto: ¿Eres maya, azteca, guaraní, quechua o mapuche? ¿O, en verdad, eres un extraterrestre?

-¿Qué piensas tú?

-Basándome en los diversos textos que hemos revisado sobre tu origen, yo creo que en nuestros días el imaginario colectivo y la creación artística han hecho de ti un mito múltiple en donde converge una buena parte de los mitos universales. En algún momento fuiste Adán, en otros fuiste Prometeo,  Hermes, Marte e, inclusive, Ilitía la diosa griega hija de Zeus y Hera que socorría a las parturientas y era venerada como diosa de los nacimientos y patrona de las comadronas. También, entre algunas comunidades religiosas, se dice que representas al Espíritu Santo y a Cristo resucitado. Igualmente, en algunas etnias autóctonas, se dice que en una oportunidad tú provocaste el diluvio y que en otra fuiste el ave que regresó con la rama de olivo en el pico. En una de las tantas páginas webs que hemos consultado se narra este momento de esa historia en estos términos:

Conservaban los pueblos de Michoacán [México] una tradición, según la cual Coxcox, a quien ellos llamaban Tezpi se embarcó en un espacioso acalli [embarcación]con su mujer, sus hijos, muchos animales y los granos cuya conservación era cara a la humanidad. Cuando el gran Espíritu Tezcatlipoca ordenó a las aguas retirarse, Tezpi hizo salir de su barca al zopilote, el cual no volvió, […]. Tezpi soltó otros pájaros, volviendo únicamente el colibrí trayendo en el pico una ramita con hojas; conociendo Tezpi que el suelo comenzaba de nuevo a engalanarse con vegetación, abandonó su barca cerca de la montaña de Colhuacan. Hoy, amigo mío, el mito se nos presenta como un relato en donde se narran acciones simbólicas propias del momento en que paulatina y progresivamente, a través de los dioses y sus mensajeros, fueron ofreciéndose respuestas acerca de la creación del espacio terrestre y celeste y, por supuesto, del hombre. En tal sentido, el mito cumple una función integradora que conduce a una explicación de los fenómenos naturales a través de los fenómenos religiosos o, en todo caso, a través de la magnificación de un suceso que se dio en el illo tempore, ab origine. Tú simbolizas la idea de lo originario como expresión de una simultaneidad. Así lo dice el mito y éste, a diferencia de la leyenda, es una estructura fáctica de índole narrativa ya definitivamente consolidada, inalterable. En consecuencia, como ejercicio de verosimilitud en cuanto a que lo verosímil es lo pensable y no lo parecido a la verdad, podemos decir que tú eres ubicuo desde tu aparición simultánea como una obra, única y magnífica, de los dioses. Desde ese día, en imágenes nerudianas, giras / como luz en la luz, / aire en el aire, / y entras / volando / en el estuche húmedo / de una flor temblorosa / sin miedo / de que su miel nupcial te decapite. Como los dioses, desde el principio, estás presente a un mismo tiempo en todas partes. Por esta misma razón, es decir, por ser ubicuo, todo lo quieres presenciar y vives en continuo movimiento. También, como mito, como los dioses y como la historia de las etnias que se atribuyen tu origen, eres una hierofanía eterna en cuanto que eres una manifestación de lo sagrado.

-Deduzco, entonces, a manera de conclusión adelantada, que yo soy parte de la memoria de un tiempo primordial que, como una línea espiral, se revive con cierta frecuencia a través de mí y de cada una de las creaciones estéticas que me han ofrendado desde siempre diferentes artistas.

Los Tucusitos. Tucusito, tucusito.

-Así es. Yo creo que nadie en el reino de las aves tiene una tradición mítica y unas particularidades físicas y etológicas como las tuyas. Nadie exhibe un avecé como el tuyo. Y escribo avecé, en lugar de abecé, como un juego de palabras en homenaje a ti que eres único entre todas las aves y, además, como designación particular de tu copioso repertorio de nombres. De ti, nadie duda de que eres un ser especial que renace cada vez que te contemplamos o que leemos o vemos uno de los tantos motivos artísticos que tú has inspirado. Uno de esos motivos es este aguinaldo  venezolano que acabamos de oír interpretado por el Coro infantil Los Tucusitos dirigido por Moisés Peña. Esta composición pertenece a Humberto Higuera y Trina Blanco y es parte del patrimonio artístico con que se engalana la Navidad venezolana.

-De nuevo, gracias.

-Gracias a ti por tu presencia y por poner en práctica en este diálogo esa habilidad que tienes para estar quieto / no en la rama / en el aire / no en el aire / en el instante. Y antes de que como una exhalación despegues a cumplir una de las tantas misiones que te confiaron los dioses, precisemos un poco más tus orígenes. A tal efecto, en cada caso, a base de una información tomada de diferentes páginas webs, transcribiremos lo fundamental de la historia que cuenta cada una de las etnias que se disputan tu gentilicio. Algunas de estas páginas se reproducen en toda su extensión en nuestra Antología. Comencemos con los mayas. En https://www.colibriforall.com/mitos-y-leyendas-sobre-los-colibries/ leemos:

Los antiguos Mayas concebían la creación de todas las cosas sobre la tierra por obra y designio de los dioses. A cada animal, a cada árbol, a cada piedra, les habían designado un trabajo al momento de crearlos; de pronto, los dioses se percataron que había una tarea de suma importancia que a nadie habían asignado: llevar los deseos y pensamientos de un lugar a otro, entre todos y cada uno de los seres de su creación. En ese momento, ya no contaban con barro ni maíz para crear a un nuevo ser; por lo tanto, eligieron tomar una piedra de jade y con todo su amor, dedicación y empeño la tallaron hasta formar una pequeña flecha. Una vez lista, soplaron sobre ella y como un relámpago verde, salió volando una diminuta, hermosa y rauda ave; de una piedra los dioses habían dado vida al x-ts’unu’um, a nuestro preciado pica flor, el colibrí.

Creado con ligereza en su cuerpo, se aproxima a las flores con gran delicadeza sin perturbarlas, conservando su integridad al cumplir con su cometido. Su cuerpo cubierto de plumaje de colores brillantes cual jade, se mueve velozmente acompañado de un zumbido característico anunciando su presencia.

De este relato mítico, situado como todos los de su misma índole en un espacio real o imaginario, pero fuera del tiempo histórico, Laura Barrera Jerez presenta este resumen:

Desde los orígenes de la civilización maya [el colibrí] fue una de las especies más reverenciadas y queridas. Según cuenta la leyenda, los dioses les dieron forma a los animales con barro y maíz, y luego le otorgaron a cada uno habilidades físicas y espirituales específicas. Es por esta razón que esos seres son sagrados: se les considera mensajeros directos del poder divino.

Sin embargo, cuando se organizaron las tareas, olvidaron encargar el traslado de los pensamientos. ¿Qué animal se encargaría de llevar los anhelos de un lado a otro? ¿Quién comunicaría deseos y sueños? ¿Quién aliviaría la distancia entre almas enamoradas y familiares aislados?

Según la leyenda, los Dioses tallaron una flecha en una piedra de Jade. Al cabo de los días, soplaron fuerte y la flecha salió volando convertida en un colibrí multicolor. (Cf. http: //www.radioenciclopedia.cu/leyendas/de-donde-provienen-sol-buenos-deseos-20171 218/).

-Ambos textos coinciden en que fui hecho de jade y precisan algunas de las misiones sagradas que debo cumplir. Te confieso que una de las que desempeño con verdadera devoción y que responde al  por qué me llaman picaflor, es la de trasladar las almas al Paraíso. Cuando una persona fallece, su alma se refugia temporalmente en una flor hasta que yo desde ahí la transporto a su descanso eterno. Permanentemente vivo esa experiencia de lo divino. Ella es, en verdad, mi razón de ser, lo inmanente, permanente e invariable en mí.

-Por cierto, a propósito de que fuiste hecho de jade, del Diccionario de Marie Coupal, Le rêve et ses symboles (Québec : Editions de Mortagne ; 1985 ; 539 p.), tomé estas tres unidades léxicas con sus respectivas definiciones que traduje al español:

COLIBRI. De très bon augure, il représente un individu puissant qui intercède pour vous et vous sauve de la défaite. Annonce la prospérité. (Excelente augurio, representa a un individuo poderoso que intercede por ti y te salva de la derrota. Anuncia prosperidad).

JADE. Porte bonheur. Le jade : comme l’or, il est chargé d’énergie cosmique et il a la propriété de protéger comme un porte-bonheur. Il symbolise la fonction royale et rien ne peut détourner la chance de celui qui le porte. (Amuleto. El jade, como el oro, está cargado de energía cósmica y tiene la propiedad de proteger como un amuleto de la suerte. Simboliza la realeza y nada puede desviar la suerte del usuario).

OISEAU. Les oiseaux apportent les messages célestes, ils favorisent l’envol de l’esprit, les oiseaux expriment l’esprit humain qui intellectualise et s’élève légèrement au-dessus des occupations terrestres. Les oiseaux sont aussi des fées célestes qui rejoignent les pensées humaines, d’après leur stat intérieur pour annoncer des événements mystiques, amoureux, d’affaires. (Las aves transportan los mensajes celestiales, promueven el vuelo del espíritu, representan el espíritu humano que se cultiva y se eleva sutilmente por encima de las cuestiones terrenas. Las aves son también hadas celestiales que se unen a los pensamientos humanos, según sus situaciones internas, para anunciar acontecimientos místicos, amorosos y negocios).

-Además de que fui hecho de jade, hay quienes afirman que, como Adán, yo fui hecho de barro. Y otros que fui un joven indígena convertido en colibrí por el Dios Sol.

-Sí. Es verdad. En un trabajo que tituló “El colibrí en leyendas”, la escritora argentina Dora Giannoni, autora del libro Colibrí, chispa pregonera de vida nueva, recogió entre cuatro recopiladores cuatro leyendas de diferentes procedencias indígenas, en las que se entremezclan el origen y las misiones o hazañas cumplidas por ti en alguna de tus tantas andanzas plenas de vicisitudes y peripecias. Son: 1) “El Amarú”, 2) “La leyenda del picaflor”, 3) “El plumaje de los pájaros” y 4) “El mainumbí y el cururú”. (Cf. https:// diariolaopinion.com.ar/contenido/164413/el-colibri-en-leyendas). En la primera leyenda, de origen quechua, se cuenta que:

Hubo una gran sequía, en la que perecieron todas las plantas, líquenes y musgos bajo el sol implacable. La flor de qantu (flor nacional peruana) empezó a marchitarse. El capullo que quedaba intacto, reacio a morir, fue transformando sus pétalos en alas y agitándose se desprendió de la planta calcinada convertido en colibrí. Se posó en la cima helada y solicitó a Waitapallana que salvara a la tierra. Murió el colibrí y Waitapallana se conmovió por la sequía y el dolor de la flor de qantu con que se adornaba. (…) Waitapallana derramó dos lágrimas que llegaron al fondo del lago despertando al Amarú. (…) del hocico del Amarú surgió la niebla que fue a parar a los cerros, del movimiento de sus alas cayó la lluvia en torrentes, de su cola de pez se desprendió el granizo y de los reflejos dorados de las bellas escamas nació el arco iris. Así renace la vida cuando ya parecía extinguida, reverdece la tierra y se llenan de agua clara los puquiales. Los quechuas creían que todo estaba escrito en las escamas del Amarú, las vidas, las cosas, las historias, las realidades y los sueños.

En “La leyenda del picaflor”, en versos, se narra la historia de una joven hija de un cacique que decide cederla en matrimonio a un hombre que no es el que ella ama. (…) “Al conocer la noticia / los amantes se juraron / que aunque estando separados / por los siglos se querrían”. Ante tal situación, la joven pide al Dios Sol que la convierta en una flor para que nadie pueda encontrarla. Y así fue. Nadie supo de su destino hasta que un día el joven preguntó por ella a la Luna y esta le confesó que el Dios Sol la había convertido en flor, pero nadie sabe en cuál de las tantas flores que existen. Entonces, a la Luna “el joven le suplicó / de que al Sol le pidiera  / que a él también convirtiera / en algo que algún día / su amada pudiera hallar. / El Dios Sol accedió / ante tal prueba de amor / y en colibrí convirtió / al joven enamorado. / Desde entonces el alado pájaro picaflor, / día a día y sin cesar / busca en todas las flores / al amor de sus amores / para poderla besar”. De esta leyenda hay una versión en prosa y otra en versos profusamente detalladas. (Cf. picaflor). Uno de los detalles es el nombre de los amantes: Poti y Guanumby. Acerca de ambos, en otra página, después de contar los detalles de su romance y de las circunstancias a que este los condujo, se dice:

Cuentan los ancianos que jamás se vio en la tierra otro prodigio igual. De pronto Potí y Guanumby vieron sus propios cuerpos, extrañados, como si ya no les pertenecieran. Potí se deshizo en un tallo pequeño pero firme y su piel se fue volviendo suave como un terciopelo: era una flor, una flor bellísima como ella misma lo había sido antes de que el gran Tupá la transformara.

Guanumby, al mismo tiempo, se volvió ligero como el aire: dos alas diminutas, casi transparentes y veloces lo mantuvieron en vuelo y, desesperado por encontrar a Potí, se alejó torpemente del lugar. Desde entonces la busca. Huele cada flor de cada monte de cada aldea. Besa con su pico las corolas más bellas con la secreta esperanza de encontrarla. Cuentan que unos hombres lo vieron y quedaron extasiados por el color de sus plumas y la rapidez de sus movimientos. ─Picaflor ─lo nombraron, porque una y diez mil veces lo vieron escarbando con su pico el interior de las flores, ignorantes de que Guanumby solo busca los besos de su amada. -En lo que acabas de leer, no hay nada relacionado con la idea de que yo soy el transporte y el conductor que desde las flores lleva las almas al Paraíso. Parece, más bien, una explicación de por qué la palabra picaflor tiene también el sentido de “seductor de mujeres”, es decir, de alguien que “busca en todas las flores”. Transcribe, por favor, este texto que voy a leer para que todos recuerden siempre por qué yo chupo las flores. De paso, con él, vuelvo a responder una de tus preguntas:

Cuenta una leyenda guaraní que la muerte no es el final de la vida, pues el hombre, al morir, abandona el cuerpo en la Tierra pero el alma continúa su existencia; se desprende y vuela a ocultarse en una flor a la espera de un mágico ser. Entonces aparece un mainimbú -nombre guaraní del colibrí- y recoge las almas para guiarlas amorosamente al Paraíso. Esta es la razón de que vuele de flor en flor. -Bien… Enigma resuelto. Ahora, volvamos al trabajo de Dora Giannoni. De la tercera leyenda, “El plumaje de los pájaros”, hicimos ya una referencia cuando hablamos de tu policromía. De esta leyenda se dice que es de origen calchaquí, un pueblo autóctono que, según el Diccionario académico, “habitó desde los valles y quebradas del noroeste hasta el sur del Chaco argentino”. En ella se cuenta que “en épocas remotas, ya existían plantas con flores muy coloridas y distintas. En cambio los pájaros eran todos del color de la tierra con que los hicieron el dios Inti, Mama-Quilla y la Pachamama”. Un día, los pájaros “decidieron viajar al Cielo para pedirle a Inti que pintara sus plumas. Hicieron el viaje y el dios Inti consideró justa la petición y pensó que si los pajaritos llegaban a él, se quemarían sus alas; entonces unió a varias nubes y se produjo un gran chaparrón. Luego cesó la lluvia y el Sol se escondió detrás de otra nube que permitía el paso de sus rayos y se produjo el arco iris más bello que jamás existiera. La multitud de aves, conmovidas con el espectáculo de tantos colores, se subieron a él para tomar los que quisieran”. Pero entre ellos  “hubo uno pequeñito, que por ser tan pequeñito no pudo volar al cielo. Era el tumiñico (…) que se quedó volando, inquieto y ligero, sobre las flores del bosque. Parecía una grácil mariposa visitando las corolas más bonitas y vistosas. Era tal su impaciencia, esperando el regreso de los pájaros viajeros, que no se quedaba quietecito ni un instante, ni asentaba sus patitas en el suelo. Así anduvo todo el día, de flor en flor, volando delicadamente sobre ellas, entre las gotas de rocío y los rayos del sol. Sin embargo, los que volvieron y lo vieron con todos los colores del iris, le preguntaban cómo los había logrado si él no pudo viajar. Él no sabía qué responder. Y una flor lo ayudó con la respuesta: -Tumiñico tiene ahora los colores del iris, los de nuestros pétalos y los de las piedras preciosas, porque ama la luz, la miel de los cálices y las gotas de rocío”.

En la última leyenda de este grupo se repite, detalladamente, la historia ya transcrita de “El colibrí y el sapo” que en guaraní se denominan el mainumbí y el cururú. En ella, fuiste hecho por Tupá, el dios supremo entre los guaraníes, de un poco de arcilla. Ese día, Tupá “resolvió hacer una joya que surcara el aire despertando la admiración de todos por su belleza, por su color, por su aspecto, por su forma de volar”. Luego, “tomó un poco de arcilla, muy poca, y le dio una forma graciosa de leve aspecto; le agregó las alitas tenues y movedizas, una cola preciosa; un pico muy fino y largo para que la nueva avecita lo pudiera introducir en las flores en busca del néctar contenido en su interior, y cubrió el cuerpecito de finísimas y sedosas plumas. Mezcló luego los más bellos colores con rayos de sol para darles reflejos irisados y con ellos pintó las plumitas de la nueva avecilla que, ya terminada, batió sus alas pequeñas y en vuelo gracioso y sutil comenzó su recorrido de flor en flor, temblando sobre ellas y sin posarse en ninguna. Según los guaraníes, la llamó mainumbí”. Lleno de envidia, Aña, el diablo, “quiso hacer una creación parecida y tomó arcilla y la pintó con los únicos colores que le quedaban: verde, negro y amarillento. Miró su obra creyendo que podía competir con la de Tupá, la acarició, la levantó en el aire e intentó hacerla volar. Cuando lo hizo, su criatura cayó pesadamente al suelo. No era un ave sino el cururú (sapo)”.

-Esa caída del cururú pesadamente al suelo, explica por qué su cuerpo es ventralmente aplanado y con manchas por encima. También se dice que el cururú tiene esas características físicas desde el día en que fue a una fiesta en el cielo. Para llegar hasta allá, viajó escondido dentro de una guitarra  que llevaba el águila que era el músico invitado para tocar en la fiesta. Terminada la parranda, el águila vio cuando el sapo se escondió de nuevo en la guitarra para regresar. A medio camino, el águila volteó su guitarra y el sapo se vino en caída libre hacia el suelo. Mientras que algunos cuentan que entre uno y otro alarido, le oían decir: ¡Apártense piedras que las voy a partir!, otros afirman que el sapo exclamaba: -¡Si de esta me salvo, no vuelvo a fiestas en el cielo! Con frecuencia, en otras versiones, el águila es sustituida por una cigüeña, un zorro o un cuervo.

-¡Pobre sapo! Por casualidad, ¿tú no recuerdas que antiguamente los abuelos o las madres nos contaban una historia del sapo que decía: Este era un sapo / con las canillas de trapo / y los ojos al revés. / Si te gusta el caso / te lo echo otra vez.

-Por supuesto. Y me has hecho recordar que en esa época decíamos contar o echar un caso por decir contar un relato. In illo tempore, amigo mío, cuando homines beati erant. Y ahora, soy yo quien te pregunta: ¿Te has dado cuenta de las correlaciones que hemos hecho a medida que fuimos avanzando?

-Claro. Y conste que en determinados momentos nos hemos limitado a las informaciones esenciales de la historia primigenia prescindiendo de ciertos detalles o de la analogía de una cosa con otra o de un caso con otro. O seleccionamos, entre varios, el texto más breve. Y, precisamente, es lo que vamos a hacer a continuación con “La Leyenda mapuche del colibrí”. De ella, transcribiremos una versión abreviada y no el relato completo con todos sus pormenores. Comenzamos, pues, con “La Leyenda Mapuche del Picaflor”:

La malvada Painefilu, loca de celos y envidia, logró separar a su hermana Painemilla de sus hijos mellizos recién nacidos, haciendo creer a todos que había parido un par de gatos. Painemilla fue alejada de su familia y tribu por estar evidentemente maldita.

Muchos años después la mentira fue descubierta y se reunieron amorosamente hijos y padres. Cuando invocaron al cielo justicia, un rayo cayó sobre Painefilu; sólo un trocito de su corazón sobrevivió y, en lugar de cenizas, se convirtió en Picaflor que desde entonces, para los Mapuches, predice una muerte.             Y seguimos con la transcripción, abreviada por nosotros, de “La leyenda quechua del colibrí”. La versión original, completa, fue preparada por Aldo Leopoldo Tevez. En la página web de donde la tomamos se dice que es una “versión traducida al castellano del original en Idioma Runa Simi, Quichua o Kichua”.(Cf. https://evangelizadorasdelosapostoles. wordpress .com/2016/ 10/23/ la-leyenda-del-colibri-leyenda-quechua/). Los invito a que, de inmediato, oigamos esta otra interesante historia acerca del origen de nuestro invitado estelar:

Dominiku, era un apuesto indiecito que se enamoró perdidamente de Qellu Sisa, la hija de Rumi Ampatu, cacique de una vasta región. Este gran Señor (…) se oponía tercamente al noviazgo de su adorada hija (…) Qellu Sisa, lo escuchaba en silencio. (…) Salía a las escondidas para ver a su Dominiku (…) y al encontrarse, con un beso se juraban amarse hasta la muerte.

Este gran Señor, don Rumi Ampatu, cierto día llamó a Qellu Sisa y le dijo: (…) he decidido llevarte lejos, a una Casa de Elegidas, allí crecerás muy bien, y alguna vez cuando vuelvas, sabrás elegir al hombre que será tu esposo. (…) Tristemente y llorando fue hacia su madre para decirle: – Madrecita, escúchame, aunque mi padre me lleve muy lejos, yo no olvidaré  a Dominiku. Llegó ese día y Sisa Qellu,  partió de su pueblo como una flor arrancada por el viento. Dominiku quedó muy angustiado viéndola partir. 

Pasó el tiempo, andaba como trastornado sin ver a su Sisa Qellu,  y un día,  decidió ir en busca de la mujer de sus sueños. (…) En cada pueblo, preguntaba por su Sisa Qellu. (…) hasta que un día (…) la encontró y al verla, con inmensa alegría le dijo: – Corazón mío, vengo a llevarte, esta noche, te escaparás de esta Casa de Elegidas. (…) Después de caminar meses y meses, llegaron a su pueblo natal  y juntos comenzaron una nueva vida para no separarse nunca más. Y fueron muy felices.

Pero un día,  Qellu Sisa, enfermó gravemente para morir después. Dominiku, no pudo afrontar la cruel realidad y trastornado por el infeliz desenlace (…) Solitario vagaba por el monte, deteniéndose en cada flor que veía,  porque creía ver en cada una de ellas, a su mujer amada. Padre Dios se compadeció y lo transformó en un pajarito. Por eso el nombre en Kichua es: Pishko Qenti o Qori Qenti, que significan pajarito de oro, comúnmente decimos Dominiku al Colibrí o Picaflor.

Entonces, de acuerdo con la tradición quechua, tú eres producto de la metamorfosis de un ser humano en colibrí por voluntad del dios supremo. En esa misma tradición, hay otra leyenda en la que se repite la idea de que eres un producto de una mediación divina. De esa leyenda, desde Internet, transcribimos esta versión:

Una vieja leyenda nativa del Perú cuenta que un poderoso dios de la selva castigó a los hombres de una tribu por haber desobedecido sus mandatos. Encolerizado, el dios separó al hombre de la mujer y decidió condenar a los varones a sufrir su soledad en la tierra, enviando a las mujeres a los cielos. Con el tiempo el dios reflexionó acerca de la severidad de su castigo. No se arrepentía de la decisión tomada, pero la verdad es que las mujeres eran menos culpables de aquella desobediencia, y por tanto no se merecían un castigo tan severo. -Mientras te oía, reflexionaba sobre algunos de los puntos que hemos tratado y, comoquiera que ya se nos acerca el momento de cerrar este diálogo, quiero que me permitas expresar algunas de las ideas que, a manera de conclusiones, quiero compartir contigo y con todos los demás. De antemano, déjame decirte que, en efecto, hoy he desandado un camino infinito y he evocado mi nacimiento simultáneo, fuera de cualquier tiempo histórico, entre todas y cada una de las etnias autóctonas que engendré o que me adoptaron como padre, como hijo de Dios o como deidad tutelar. Del mismo modo, entendí que soy el símbolo de una memoria ancestral  que se revive permanentemente en cada una de las misiones irrenunciables que debo cumplir. Soy y seré siempre el recolector de las almas; el guardián del tiempo, símbolo del infinito, de la eternidad y la continuidad; el mensajero de los dioses y de la buena fortuna; el portador  del amor, de los buenos deseos, de la alegría y la belleza; el protector de los guerreros y nahual de la guerra y soy, finalmente, un paradigma en la cosmogonía prehispánica que será, eternamente, fuente de vitalidad e inspiración. Como mensajero de los dioses he cumplido diferentes misiones. Una de ellas tiene un sentido especial para determinadas creencias religiosas contemporáneas que me identifican con algunos de sus símbolos. Para demostrártelo, del libro de Alfredo Mires Ortiz vamos a transcribir esta misión que una vez se me encomendó:

El Segundo presagio funesto, ocurrido diez años antes que llegaran los españoles y que los indios le refirieran después a Bernardino de Sahagún, decía que, en México “por su propia cuenta se abrasó en llamas, se prendió en fuego: nadie tal vez le puso fuego, sino por su espontánea acción ardió la casa de Huitzilopochtli. (…) Entre los nahuas se cuenta que cuando Dios vio que de la tierra se elevaba humo, mandó un pájaro para ver qué ocurría, pero al llegar se quedó a comer pájaros muertos. Dios envió a otro y también se quedó a comer carnes descompuestas. Cuando dios mandó al tercer pájaro, éste llegó a la tierra y se volvió de inmediato para informarle que en la tierra sus hijos seguían vivos y que los dos pájaros que había enviado antes se habían quedado a comer cadáveres. Entonces Dios le dijo: “Por cumplir lo que te encargué, te voy a dar todas las flores que hay en la tierra para que te alimentes con pura agüita de flor; y te vestiré más bonito. Los demás comerán toda la vida lo que ellos quisieron”. (En Larios, 1994: 108). El primero de estos pájaros fue el gavilán, el segundo el zopilote y el tercero huitzitzilli. (Cf. p. 150)

-Se dice que fueron ocho los presagios funestos que vaticinaron la destrucción del imperio mexica. Una vez más, como siempre, en cada historia eres la figura estelar.

-En este relato se utiliza una de las variantes del nombre que tengo entre los nahuas.

– Totalmente de acuerdo contigo, amigo mío y déjame decirte que para cerrar este maravilloso encuentro has hecho un magnífico resumen autobiográfico. Permíteme que a ese resumen le agregue estas palabras de Victoria Castro: No es de extrañar entonces que dada su etología y su capacidad de transformación, denotada como un renacer, el picaflor causara tanto asombro. Está asociado al sol, a la lluvia, al trueno, al verano y al invierno, como el arcoíris y su presencia y poder, para los pueblos originarios, han perdurado, no obstante, la dinámica de las transformaciones. Con el mismo resumen, además, has respondido la pregunta que se hizo el poeta Pablo Neruda para quien siempre fuiste una incógnita, una maravilla de la naturaleza y un permanente objeto de admiración: te pregunto, / ¿qué cosa eres, / en dónde / te originas? / Tal vez en la edad ciega / del diluvio / en el lodo / de la fertilidad, / cuando / la rosa / se congeló en un puño de antracita / y se matricularon los metales, / cada uno en / su secreta / galería, / tal vez entonces / de reptil / herido / rodó un fragmento, / un átomo / de oro, / la última / escama cósmica, una / gota / del incendio terrestre / y voló / suspendiendo tu hermosura, / tu iridiscente / y rápido zafiro.

Y, antes de que nos despidamos, quiero decirte que lamentablemente no alcanzamos a revisar otras de las tantas páginas webs que teníamos previstas. De ahí en adelante tú eres el baquiano. La otra, es una pregunta: ¿Eres extraterrestre?

Con cierta frecuencia me sucede que, sin justificación alguna, como una imagen momentánea que surgiera por sí misma, pienso en una determinada persona y poco tiempo después, tan sólo unos pasos más allá, me encuentro con ella. O anticipo la visión de una imagen cualquiera. A esta circunstancia, cuyo perímetro no se reduce a un simple encuentro casual con una imagen previamente pensada, Jung la llamó fenómeno de la sincronicidad.
